KidneyTexas Patrons Party Warms Up For Luncheon With A ...

Charlotte Kimberlin

Tuesday night?s KidneyTexas patrons? party was indeed bittersweet for hosts/KidneyTexas Honorary Chair Charlotte Kimberlin. The family home, filled with photos, paintings and western collectibles including a saddle, was a far cry from where the Kimberlins? attention has been recently. It seems that Charlotte?s and husband John?s ?cabin? at Possum Creek is now a mere cinder due to the onslaught of wildfires. The Kimberlins? get-away home had been the site of family getaways for three generations since 1984 and its loss was especially hard on the grandkids.

According to Charlotte, the fire was so intense, everything simply melted, leaving nothing. And she should know because she was there the day that the area was evacuated before the wave of flames engulfed their home. When asked what she grabbed to rescue, Charlotte smiled and said, ?My laptop!? Smart girl.

Are they going to rebuild at the location? Nope. They were already building a another ?second home? somewhere near the site.

But hardly anyone knew about the loss, because Charlotte and John were putting on perfect host smiles for a couple of reasons.

Pat McDonough

First, it was the final send-off before the KidneyTexas luncheon at Brook Hollow on September 15. Looking around the crowded room, red-haired Pat McDonough and blonde dotter Marianne Wilshusenadmitted to

Marianne Wilshusen

being a bit overwhelmed by the turnout and the support for the ?Stepping Out In Style? luncheon that benefits Children?s Medical Center of Dallas, Camp Reynal and PKD Foundation. But then what can you expect when Jan Strimple is handling the fashion production and Tootsies is supplying the fashionable wear?

John Kimberlin

Second, Pat and Marianne notified the guests that it was John?s 63rd birthday. To commemorate the occasion, they almost gave him $63,000. How?s that? Well, they presented him with a basket decorated with 63 lottery tickets. If they all come in at $1,000 per, then . . . well, you get it.

Carol Seay

After the presentation, chatting returned as the favored entertainment of the night. Carol Seay was talking about the June 18 wedding of her son, Michael, to Stephanie Wynne of Portland, Oregon. It took place near Santa Rosa, Calif., at Mayacama, a private golf and lodging club not far from Healdsburg. With the help of Todd Fiscus, Carol held a lavish rehearsal dinner at Annadel Estate Winery and followed it up with a ?welcome party? at Barndiva. How grand was it? Well, word has it that you might find coverage of the wedding festivities in the pages of Martha Stewart?s magazine. And you just know she doesn?t settle for plastic forks and paper plates.

Don and Barbara Daseke

And speaking of extravaganzas, Grand Luxe September cover girl Barbara Daseke didn?t look like a gal whose next time up to bat is the Dallas Symphony Gala on September 17, just two days after the KidneyTexas luncheon. With an exotic Indian theme, Barbara is not about to let a great opportunity to be fashionable pass her by. Expect to see her in a 20-pound ?bejeweled? skirt designed by Pashe. Asked if husband Don would be wearing a Nehru jacket, Barb raised her eyes to the ceiling and laughed something like, ?Heavens, no, I wouldn?t put him through that.? BTW, the Fiscus touch will be seen through this special occasion, too.

Megan Meyercord

In the kitchen, it was couples night with KT President Megan Meyercord with husband Andy, who was a kidney transplant recipient ages ago, in one

Renee and David Winter

area, and KT luncheon 2010 co-chair Renee and David Winter in another.

Doris Jacobs and Carmaleta Whiteley

Another 2010 KT luncheon co-chair, Carmaleta Whiteley, was in the living room filling in friends about her recent holiday at Capella Predregal in Cabo. Seems that Carmaleta was wined and dined by pal Shirley Dunn Hanks at the resort and ran into Ice T, who was there with his pooch. While there she had a three-hour massage (?the best ever?), a ceviche cooking class and classes in tequila and Mexican wine. No wonder why she had a big old smile on her face while talking with Doris Jacobs, who was once again mistaken for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
