Real estate agents help improve home for family in need ...

DOVER ? Keller Williams Coastal Realty in Portsmouth dedicated its National RED Day on May 10 to helping rehabilitate a home on Ash Street with the Dover High School Technical Center.

Sixty agents and employees spent the day sporting red T-shirts and working with the students from the technical center. About a dozen agents cleaned and landscaped the yard. Others worked on vinyl siding for the exterior and another team worked inside framing and dry walling.

The day of giving back is offered to honor Keller Williams Vice Chairwoman Mo Anderson on her birthday. Anderson has been the leader behind Keller Williams culture and has set the standards that the company holds for ethics and charitable contributions, according to KWCR. RED stands for renew, energize and donate. Keller Williams associates across the United States and Canada donate this one day a year to assist local community service projects.

Irahn Bate, of the DHS Career Technical Center's building and trades program, said students gutted the home and were working to remodel it and the property. Having the extra hands made it easier to get the work done faster, Bate said.

"Once the rehab is completed, the two-story home will be a new house for a low-income family from the area," said local RED Day coordinator Alice Kubacki. "It's so great to be able to give back."

Donations will be accepted for next year's project, which is yet to be determined and any participants are welcome to call Kubacki at 610-8500.
