Make Your Resume Writing Sparkle

The resume you submit to a company when you apply for a position goes along with your cover letter and is the first thing that someone who is hiring for a specific position sees so you need to make it perfect.?

?

Resume writing is not exactly something that everyone learns in a class like basic mathematics skills. The first thing to focus on is your experience. Each listing for experience should include the name of the company, a listing of the responsibilities in short sentences and the beginning and end dates for your employment.?

?

The types of sentences that should be used in resume writing are not only short but actionable.

Action words typically end in ?-ed? at the end if they?re past tense and indicate something that has been done. Some examples of action words include ?developed?, ?achieved?, ?focused? or ?constructed.? The active voice is more influential and leaves a lasting impression on the reader.?

?

Use specifics when describing your achievements.

Instead of giving a general idea about the workload you carried, use specific numbers and situations that you were faced with previously that give you an advantage over other applicants.

?

Your resume also needs to have clearly defined objectives for your chosen career path. The various positions and industries that you have an interest in or have worked in should be listed clearly and to the point in short sentences since it?s highly likely that the reader isn?t going to read long and drawn out sentences when deciding who to interview.?

?

Since a hiring manager?s time is limited it?s essential to keep your resume to a single page since you shouldn?t be using extra words. Only include information that is relevant to the position regarding previous experience and your education. List both paid and volunteer work if it is necessary to show your qualifications for the job.?

?

Other things that go into resume writing besides the general wording are its appearance. Don?t use artistic or hard to read fonts in an attempt to make your resume stand out. Using proper language and following the guidelines shows your professionalism and is more than enough for prospective employers to see. Look it over again and again to note where you can change the wording or look for errors that may ruin your chances of being hired.?

Another key aspect to keep in mind when learning all about resume writing is that while it needs to be personal and describe you, some things need to remain personal and are not appropriate for a professional environment. If your personal interests are relevant to the position or you have volunteer experience, use that to personalize your resume.

?

Resume writing is something that you need to learn over time as you write them in different parts of your life. Don?t expect your first draft to be perfect and have your friends and family members read it over before submitting to a company to apply for a position to check for errors and ensure accuracy. Your former boss or professor may also be willing to look it over.?
